the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Forensic RN, within the
scope of the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, will provide care in an
atmosphere sensitive to each person's physical, emotional, social,
and spiritual needs. The Forensic RN, functioning in the spirit of
teamwork, is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing
the nursing process within the standards, policies, procedures and
guidelines of the Organization. JOB DUTIES Actively demonstrates
the organization's mission and core values and conducts oneself at
all times in a manner consistent with these values. Knows and
adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health,
safety and medical information. Perform and document a complete
physical and forensic evidence collection examination including
head-to-toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination,
forensic specimen collection and documentation, including
photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status, and
reporting when appropriate on a Forensic patient. Document detailed
injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence. Maintain
chain of custody for each Forensic patient. Maintain professional
standards that do not create conflicts of interests with employment
or patient care, including patient and medical record
confidentiality. Administer appropriate prophylactic medications
per protocols. Provide testimony as fact witness to any/all cases
performed while employed as a Forensic Nurse and coordinate with
attorneys during judicial process. Maintain current Evidence Based
Practices through continuing educational offerings. Participate in
documentation and evaluation process with the Forensic Coordinator.
Assure all activities performed as the Forensic Nurse adhere to the
established guidelines. Maintain close working relationships with
the Forensic leadership andinterdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team
involved in the care of Forensic patients. Take on-call shifts as
scheduled per departmental needs. Report to on-call shifts within
approximately 60 minutes of dispatch. Responds to all subpoenas on
cases through the Forensic Department. Attends 10 out of 12 monthly
Forensic Department staff meetings. Promotes a Culture of Safety by
adhering to policy, procedures and plans that are in place to
prevent workplace injury, violence or adverse outcome to associates
and patients. Follows policies, procedures, and protocols for the
Forensic department. Makes appropriate community referrals for
patients seen within the Forensic Department. Follow up with
patients after discharge to assure the needs of the patient have
been met and if additional referrals are needed for ongoing
medical/psychological care. Maintains good rapport and cooperative
relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps
to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their
resolution. Responds to questions and needs in a non-threatening
and receptive manner. Collaborates with the ED physician, social
worker, department of child services, advocates, ED nurse and law
enforcement of the jurisdiction of the assault. Performs other
duties consistent with purpose of job as directed. JOB
SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES Education: Graduate of an
accredited RN program. Successful completion of the Sexual Assault
Nurse Examiner Training and additional didactic and clinical hours
related to the care given to patients of domestic violence,
strangulation, sexual abuse, child physical abuse and elder abuse.
Licensure: Current RN License (RN-IN). Current BLS certification.
Experience: Critical care nursing is preferred. Other Job

your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change
