Health to find a qualified Med/Surg RN in Fort Wayne, Indiana,

Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years in Level
1, Level 2, or tertiary experience. License: Indiana RN license or
compact Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Minimum of 1 year of
medical-surgical experience at a large hospital with over 600 beds.
Description: This position requires general medical and surgical
nursing care. The patient population is diverse, including those
with chronic illnesses such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, and end-stage
renal disease. Candidates will manage GI issues such as
pancreatitis, bleeding, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Infections
such as pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and c-diff will also be
part of the care required. Care may include patients with
neurological issues including stroke, dementia, and traumatic brain
injuries. Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and
substance abuse will be addressed as well. Patients may undergo
procedures including colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis,
bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. Skills required include
assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and
utilization of electronic health records. Candidates should be
proficient in managing IV pumps, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads,
feeding pumps, feeding tubes, and chest tubes. Management of
heparin and insulin drips, as well as IV therapy management, are
necessary skills. Equipment utilized includes electronic records
systems, medication dispensing machines, blood glucose monitors, IV
pumps, and telemetry monitoring. The position requires candidates
to float to various medical units as needed. The patient-to-nurse
ratio is approximately 1:5-6. A supplemental staff orientation is
required, including general hospital orientation and nursing
orientation. Candidates may be expected to work three weekend
shifts within a four-week period. Dress code is Caribbean blue
