and Support AssociateJob Summary:The Food Services and Support
Associate is responsible for meal planning, preparation, grocery
shopping, and kitchen maintenance for a domestic violence shelter.
This role ensures that shelter residents receive nutritious meals
while upholding the privacy and confidentiality of clients. As part
of a crisis center, the individual must maintain a safe,
non-judgmental environment, demonstrating empathy and
professionalism at all times. Additionally, the role includes
managing food inventory, handling food donations, and occasionally
providing transportation for shelter residents.Key
Responsibilities:
- Meal Planning and Preparation:
- Prepare well-balanced dinners for shelter residents five days
per week.
- Cater to various dietary needs, including vegetarian,
gluten-free, and vegan preferences.
- Collaborate with staff to plan meals one week in advance,
considering donated meals.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain inventory for the shelter kitchen and administration
building, ensuring proper organization and labeling.
- Monitor and discard expired items as needed.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and household goods to
keep the shelter well-stocked.
- Grocery Shopping and Cost Management:
- Compare prices between suppliers to optimize food
purchases.
- Stock the shelter kitchen with essential items at the beginning
and end of each work week.
- Food Donations Coordination:
- Pick up food donations from community partners.
- Maintain detailed records and receipts for all donated
food.
- Kitchen and Facility Maintenance:
- Ensure the shelter and administration building kitchens remain
clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Adhere to USDA food handling and safety protocols.
- Client Transportation and Support:
- Assist with transporting clients as needed while ensuring
safety and confidentiality.
- Maintain professionalism and respect while engaging with
residents.
- Collaborative Work Environment:
- Work closely with staff and clients to foster an open,
supportive atmosphere.
- Uphold strict confidentiality standards while interacting with
residents.Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- Food Handler's License required.
- Experience preparing meals for large groups (approx 24 servings
per meal).
- Knowledge of special dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free,
vegan).
- Strong organizational skills to manage meal planning and
inventory across two locations.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism
and confidentiality.
- Clean driving record required for transportation duties.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an open environment while
ensuring privacy and respect for clients.Working Hours:--- 11 AM to
7 PM, Wednesday through Sunday.This position requires working at
both the shelter and the administration building. While groceries
will primarily be stored at the administration building, all
cooking and meal preparation will take place at the shelter. Strong
organizational skills are essential to manage inventory and meal
prep effectively across both locations. The individual must
maintain a clean and efficient kitchen space while fostering a
collaborative and supportive environment for staff and residents.If
