JOB SUMMARY Provides care to pregnant women presenting to obstetric unit. Responsible to assess, evaluate and treat patients in the hospital setting by using advanced knowledge and skill to identify normal and abnormal conditions, diagnose health problems, and collaborate with the patient's obstetric provider for further care management. JOB DUTIES 1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values. 2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information. 3. Performs accurate history and physical examination as appropriate for type of visit or patient complaint. 4. Provides care to the women in a hospital setting including ordering and evaluation for diagnostic tests and management of minor complications. 5. Answers patient’s questions and triages patient problems. 6. Identifies deviations from normal and consults, co-manages or refers as appropriate. 7. Completes necessary documentation. 8. Assists the director in planning, developing, coordinating, evaluating and recommending revision of the services provided by the advanced practice nurses. 9. See client in a reasonable and timely manner. 10. Provides individualized client teaching and counseling utilizing the advanced nurse practice philosophy. 11. Functions as an interdisciplinary team member in planning a health care approach that best serves the needs of the family, physician, social worker, dietitian and nursing. 12. Instructs and supervises advanced practice nursing students as assigned. 13. Availability to Maternal Child Services to foster continuous improvement, supervise education and participate in administrative functions. 14. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Nursing or Master of Science with midwifery curriculum. Licensure: RN Indiana License, Certified Nurse-Midwife License with prescriptive authority or CNM license pending. Certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives certifying body. The state of Indiana does not require a Nurse practitioner license however; a Nurse Practitioner CSR license is required in the state of Indiana if the position has prescriptive authority. Certified in CPR, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and NCC fetal monitoring. Eligible for credentialing by the Medical Staff Office. Experience: One –three years nurse-midwifery experience preferred, new graduates will be considered or nurse practitioner with obstetric experience.
